Islands Journalist Spends a Day (or Four) in the Life at Sandals Whitehouse

December 30, 2014 - Sandals Resorts - Dining

Imagine yourself on a Luxury Included® Vacation – inclusive of crystal clear beaches, gourmet Discovery Dining, premium top-shelf spirits and top notch service with a “no problem” attitude. Now imagine all that’s happening behind the scenes to make Luxury happen, are you curious? Journalist Robert Stephens was and his curiosity led him to embark on a four day journey stepping into the lives of Sandals Whitehouse staff. Stephens shares his experience on the service side of six different resort jobs through a 10-page feature in the latest edition of Islands Magazine.

Stephens kicked off his first role as a Sandals butler with a 4-hour crash course of all things service. Very impressive considering real butlers go through two and a half months of training! From there, Stephens wore the hats of pastry chef, bartender, concierge – and more! Even though Stephens is not quite yet ready to balance a stack of cups on his nose for bar patrons or master the delicate art of crepe making, he did walk away with an immense appreciation for all the hard work that goes into providing the perfect getaway for all Sandals guests!

His experience is probably best summed up by a piece of advice given to him by Sandals Whitehouse General Manager, Mr. Miller.

“How do you make 720 people feel special?”

“One at a time.”
