Vincy Vows: A Wedding on the Horizon

Kari &
Ryan

I-sandals.svgn true modern fashion, Kari and Ryan met on a dating app. It was love at first swipe. But planning a wedding? That took a little more scrolling. Big ballroom? Not their thing. Hometown affair? Too much fuss. What they wanted was sun, simplicity, and just enough rum to keep the dance floor moving.

So when it came time to start planning, the brief was simple. They were drawn to the appeal of a destination that was warm, beautiful, and easygoing. Florida came up. So did the Dominican Republic. But nothing clicked, not until a link to Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines landed in Kari’s inbox.

For Kari, the destination was a first. Ryan, on the other hand, was no stranger to Sandals. A previous trip to Saint Lucia had given him a taste of what was possible, but this was different. “It almost felt like a secret,” Kari says. “A place people hadn’t been before.” They share a smile and Ryan continues, “Yeah, Saint Vincent was our first choice, and honestly, nothing else even came close.”

  • “I’ve always associated romance and vacation with the sea,
and my parents always came back from Sandals so relaxed.
I wanted that same feeling — just in white.”
  1. Kari grew up going to the coast. Her childhood summers were marked by salty air and freckles that sprouted under the sun. The idea of a tropical escape was inviting — but the thought of turning that into a wedding? That was new. “We’re not big attention people,” Ryan says. “We just wanted to be somewhere peaceful with the people we love, you know? Somewhere we’d be able to actually experience the place, not just stay at the resort all day.”

  2. They were drawn to the idea of a wedding that felt more like an adventure — where they could explore, and the days leading up to the ceremony would be filled with real connections: to each other and to the island itself.

  3. When it came to the guest list, they kept things tight — only close friends and family. Everyone flew in, and then came the second surprise: a private boat transfer straight to the resort. “It was this magical moment for us right at the beginning,” Kari says. “We were all drinking and laughing together, it felt like we were already on vacation and we hadn’t even set foot on the resort yet.”

  4. Once they arrived, the pace softened. The guest experience became an extension of Kari and Ryan’s vibe, a relaxed calm with the subtle buzz of underlying excitement. There was something for everyone: swim-up bar hangouts, scuba diving adventures, musical bingo nights… more swim-up bar hangouts. And better yet, no one had to worry about carrying a wallet, closing a tab, or even remembering to leave a tip — it was all covered. “That was one of the best things,” Kari says. “It just made our stay feel so effortless, and I seriously needed that.”

  5. Before the celebrations kicked into full gear, Kari and Ryan settled into what would become their home base for the week. It’s where they staged pre-wedding photos and captured that golden hour lighting that leaves a soft, honey glow. They’d come back to little surprises throughout their stay — chocolate-dipped fruits, heart-shaped cookies, rose petals carefully placed around the room — thoughtful touches that felt personal without being too showy. “It was like they really saw us,” Kari reflects.
  1. The room was also spacious enough to handle the beautiful chaos that comes naturally with destination “I do’s.” “We loved our room. It was absolutely gorgeous and so roomy,” Kari says. “When you’re coming in with all the wedding stuff, you know… dresses, shoes, suits, little details — you need that space to spread out.” And that’s exactly what they did. With four suitcases between them, the two made full use of the suite’s media room, private balcony, and oversized bathroom.

The wedding itself? A dream from the second they walked into the Overwater Chapel just two days before the ceremony. “We had just finished breakfast,” Kari recalls, “and decided to go take a look. We stepped inside, and I instantly knew. I turned to Ryan and said, ‘This is it. This is where we’re getting married.’”

The clear blue waters, the breeze, the intimate feel — it was a place she’d been imagining long before she even knew it existed. A setting so stunning rarely needs much, but it’s the bride’s vision that turns a beautiful space into something very special. Kari’s aesthetic was tropical-meets-classic. For the welcome cocktail, she leaned into those vibrant island colors — hot pinks, sunset oranges, deep greens — and signature drinks with fun names like “The Blushing Bride.” In contrast, she wanted her wedding to favor the timeless look: white florals, soft accents, delicate greenery — a clean, elegant style that let the seascape shine.

  2. And with great beauty comes great responsibility. Coordinating florals and logistics meant working with vendors from a distance, which the on-site Sandals wedding team made happen with seamless ease. “Everyone was incredible,” Kari says. “And oh my gosh, when we finally met Roshard and Joyce in person, they were just like family. It was like we’d known them forever. They even showed up on the dance floor at the reception.”

The ceremony was breathtaking. Kari was a vision in white as she walked down the aisle, fresh flowers in hand and the Caribbean sea gently shimmering around the chapel. They’d seen photos and done the walk-through, but nothing had prepared her for how it would feel in that moment. “Somehow, even after seeing it all, I was still surprised,” she says, smiling.

As the sun set, energy shifted. Cocktail hour blurred into a dance party, with guests already on their feet before dinner had ended. The DJ played a mix curated by Kari and Ryan, each song proving itself a big hit on the dance floor. The night was theirs.

Of course, no Sandals wedding is complete without a couple of surprises, and there were still a few no one saw coming — like a prank first look with Ryan’s best man. The real first look came later, landing exactly as she’d hoped. “The dress was a total secret. It was hard, but his face when he finally saw me…” she pauses, “I’ll remember that forever.”
  • “Our butlers had this perfect timing. You’d think about wanting something, and five seconds later, it was there.”
  1. There were other highlights, too. One particular outing took them inland to Dark View Falls, where they posed for photos in front of double cascading waterfalls. Another day brought them out to the Tobago Cays, something Kari had been looking forward to. “The only thing I told Ryan we had to do was see turtles,” she says. And her wish came true — twenty of them, gliding through the clear water. They spent the rest of the day island hopping, with grilled lobster and cold drinks ready for them at one of the stops.

  2. Now back in North Carolina, the glow still hasn’t worn off. “We’ve probably watched the wedding video like forty times,” Kari admits. “At this point, it’s our favorite rom-com.” Ryan grins. “We keep talking about going back. Maybe we’ll move there,” he jokes. And if you ask them what stood out most? It’s not the chapel, or the cake, or even the Carnival-inspired dance moment where Ryan — wings and all — took over the dance floor. What stuck with them is something a little harder to photograph. It’s the feeling. The feeling of being seen, of being celebrated in a way that made them feel truly understood. “It was everything we wanted and more,” Kari says.
