Meet the World’s Most Coveted Cup: Jamaica Blue Mountain® Coffee

Good mornings begin with a cup of coffee. But it's that first sip of Blue Mountain coffee that takes your morning from good to great. Smooth. Low in acid. Full of deeply rich flavor. Every brew contains hints of citrus and chocolate, with a soft, almost creamy finish that gently pulls you out of last night's sleep and sets your day in motion.

First arriving in Jamaica as a gift from King Louis XV of France, it's safe to say Blue Mountain coffee isn't your regular cup of joe. That rare, silky profile starts high up on the east side of the island, just north of the capital, Kingston, and as the name suggests, in the misty Blue Mountains. There, the air is cooler, clouds roll in and out, and sunlight filters softly through a canopy of lush mountainside greenery. It's all part of what makes Blue Mountain coffee so special.

Coffee cherries grow slower at higher altitudes. To earn the Blue Mountain name, they have to be cultivated between levels of 3,000 to 5,500 feet. Up there, cooler temperatures and thinner air allow the flavor to build gradually.

Leafy overhead conditions do the rest. Natural shade helps the coffee cherries mature evenly, deepening the sweetness while keeping the acidity low. Beneath it all, rich volcanic soil adds another layer. Packed with nutrients, it gives the plants exactly what they need to thrive, without overworking the land.

Plus, every coffee cherry is selectively handpicked and quality tested. From there, only the best beans make the cut. Even after being carefully selected and roasted, the beans must be approved by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica. So you get a cup of coffee that's incredibly smooth and highly praised for its lack of bitterness. This silky profile is exactly why Blue Mountain coffee is part of the experience across every all-inclusive Sandals® resort.
